Mission

The mission of Gilda’s Club is to ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community. Gilda's Club provides a meeting place where men, women and children living with cancer, along with their families and friends, join with others to build emotional and social support as an essential complement to medical care.

Free of charge and non-profit, Gilda's Club offers support and networking groups, lectures, workshops and social events in a non-residential, homelike setting. Gilda’s Club Kansas City joins a network of international clubhouses guided by the Cancer Support Community, which shares best practices, spreads innovation, and imparts the lessons learned in order to continually improve the Gilda’s Club program. As an affiliate of the Cancer Support Community, Gilda's Club Kansas City benefits from being a part of a large network yet is a separate entity, and all funds raised locally, stay locally.  To find clubhouses in other areas, or for more information about the Cancer Support Community, please click here.

In addition to in-person support through Gilda's Club Kansas City, people impacted by cancer in the Greater Kansas City area can also access support online. The Cancer Support Community provides an Online Community to bring the experience of the local Wellness Community or Gilda's Club to you through the Internet 24 X 7. Quotes

“Cancer is no simple disease, and effective treatment is not just about killing rogue cells with radiation and chemotherapy. It's about healing the human being.”

-- Anonymous

“The failure to address the very real psychosocial health needs of patients and their caregivers is a failure to effectively treat that patient's cancer, plain and simple.”

“What a truly amazing organization. The people – others just like me who are trying to sort out all the feelings that come with a cancer diagnosis – are an inspiration. They helped me laugh when I wanted to cry and to realize that I don’t have to be alone in this. Gilda’s Club made such a difference in how I feel about myself, in how I think about cancer, and how I live my life.”

-- Cassie, Gilda’s Club Supporter

“As Gilda’s brother, it is with great appreciation and satisfaction that USA Today has honored Gilda’s Club as one of the top 25 charitable organizations this year. It is a wonderful reflection on Gilda’s wish that no one should have to face cancer alone. As Gilda’s Club spreads across North America, men, women, and children with all types of cancer, plus their families and friends are able to join a community for social and emotional support. Membership is entirely free. That USA Today recognizes the value of Gilda’s Club is a great compliment to the organization and to Gilda’s legacy and her dream. “

-- Michael Radner, Vice Chair, Board of Directors, Gilda’s Club Worldwide
